Our Story

Thompson Law Professional Corporation is owned and operated by Owen Thompson. Mr. Thompson established his practice in the City of Barrie in January 1996 and has been serving the legal needs of small businesses and individuals since. Incorporated in 2014, Thompson Law Professional Corporation provides a broad range of legal services to businesses and individuals. Particulars of the types of services we provide are found under our Practice Areas.

In order to better serve our clients, we relocated to the south end of Barrie in July 2007, where we are conveniently located on Welham Road, approximately 5 minutes north-east from the Mapleview Road/Highway 400 interchange. Our current location offers free parking, flexible appointment times and a modern facility from which we serve our clients.

At Thompson Law Professional Corporation, we bring together the skills of lawyers, paralegals, law clerks and legal assistants to complete work for our clients. We look forward to providing these services to you.

Owen Thompson biography head shot

Owen Thompson – Lawyer

After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science and English from the University of Toronto in 1983, Owen pursued business studies at the University of Toronto Faculty of Management where he obtained his Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in 1986. With a foundation in political theory and business, Owen entered the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and obtained his Baccalaureate of Law (LL.B.) in 1989. Owen’s articles were completed at the Toronto law firm of Holden Day Murdoch where he apprenticed in civil litigation, corporate-commercial and real estate law.

Having successfully passed the Ontario Bar Exams in the spring of 1991, Owen was admitted to the Bar of Ontario and has been a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada ever since. Prior to opening his practice in Barrie in 1996, Owen worked with the Government of Canada, first in the Competition Bureau where he worked on policy development and investigations and thereafter at Industry Canada where he worked on industrial development in the Canadian sound recording industry as a supplier of digital media to the world wide web.

In addition to practising law full time, Owen also participates in the Georgian College international student exchange program having provided placements to numerous German exchange students, teaches/has taught law clerk courses in estates, corporate, litigation and real estate law at Georgian College, teaches in the International Business Certificate Program at Georgian College, has taught business law at Laurentian University, and formerly sat on the board of Directors for the Business Enterprise Resource Network of Barrie South Simcoe.

Angela Ingoglia biography head shot

Angela Ingoglia – Paralegal

Since 1999, Angela Ingoglia has provided paralegal services in Barrie and surrounding areas. As a proud member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, Angela has been committed to advocacy in all areas of paralegal services, including, Small Claims Court, Landlord and Tenant Tribunal, Workplace Safety Insurance Board Claims and Appeals, Record Suspension Applications (Criminal Pardons) and Name Change Application.

While working as a Paralegal, Angela began a career in professional legal education, specifically teaching in the paralegal program at a CTS Canadian Career College.

A very important attribute in both advocacy and legal education is being a team player. Angela joined the team of Thompson Law Professional Corporation law firm in 2007 when the business was still operating as a sole proprietorship of Owen Thompson. As a team player ideas are bounced off each other and the use of others knowledge improves personal development making for more efficient client service. As a dedicated member of the firm, Angela takes pride in serving clients professionally.

Tiffany Matthews biography head shot

Tiffany Matthews – Clerk/Assistant

Tiffany graduated from the Office Administration Legal program at Georgian College in 2011 and shortly after joined the firm. Using her administration skills, Tiffany is the firm’s primary receptionist and provides administrative assistance to all staff and on most files.

From booking appointments, to insuring that courier packages are sent out, to banking runs, document filings at the Court or picking up/delivering real estate closing documents, Tiffany helps to insure that the administrative aspects of our clients’ files are attended to.
